Join us for a rare and intimate gathering at Sky Maple Farm featuring Marathon Monk Mitsunaga Endo Dai-Ajari of Japan. Ajari is the 50th monk in modern history to complete the legendary Kaihōgyō, the thousand-day walking meditation practiced by Tendai Buddhist monks on Mt. Hiei in Japan. This profound discipline requires monks to walk tens of thousands of miles over seven years in continuous prayer and meditation, a path so demanding that only a small number of practitioners have completed it in over a millennium.
It is extraordinarily rare for a Kaihōgyō Ajari to travel internationally, making this a unique opportunity to spend time in the presence of a living practitioner of one of the world’s most rigorous spiritual traditions.

At the heart of the experience is a one-mile forest loop where participants can run or walk alongside the Marathon Monk. Moving at their own rhythm and free from clocks or competition, participants are encouraged to explore the loop as a form of moving meditation. A mala bead will be given for every lap completed, allowing participant to track their distance without clocks or cellphones.
Participants may step off the path to experience a series of contemplative practices offered across the farm. Floating sound baths, sunset yoga, Stargate binaural meditation, and equine-assisted meditation will take place in quiet pockets of the landscape, surrounded by grazing horses, open pasture, and migratory birds.
As the sun sets, the gathering concludes with a vegetarian farm-to-table dinner. The night will include teachings, meditation, and an open dialogue with the Ajari-sama.

Akshay Nanavati, Speaker, Author, Adventurer and War Vet will be joining us and speaking at dinner. In November 2024, Akshay dared to try a journey often considered to be impossible. It was, as one explorer put it, “the boldest Antarctic expedition in modern times.” His goal was to complete the world’s first unsupported, solo, 2,750km, coast to coast ski crossing of Antarctica. He spent 60 days and traveled 500 miles across Antarctica.
Learn about grit and mental determination from Akshay during dinner in addition to the Ajari-sama from Japan.

For those interested and feeling extra bold, we are adding 27, 54, 81 and 108 mile ultra-marathon options starting the night of June 5 (the night before the event). The numbers 108, 81, 54, and 27 are significant because they represent divisions of the sacred number 108, which is used in Hinduism, Buddhism, and yoga to represent cosmic wholeness, spiritual completion, and the path to enlightenment. These specific numbers are used to help practitioners count mantras during meditation and to mark progress. Instead of medals, the goal is to have a meaningful and blessed mala necklace once completed. Sign-up for the Ultra here. Payment for the Ultra also gives you access to all Solgorithm events.

The one mile loop winds gently through open pastures before guiding participants into the quiet of the surrounding forest, creating a natural rhythm of exposure and enclosure. Along the path, there are opportunities to pause and engage in experiences like sound bath, meditation, yoga, and other grounding practices, allowing each lap to become both physical and reflective. As the centerpiece of the event, the loop is inspired by the sacred tradition of circumambulating the Boudhanath Stupa in Nepal, where practitioners walk clockwise with the monument on their right. This sunwise movement is a gesture of respect and alignment with a greater order, inviting participants to move with intention, presence, and a sense of quiet accumulation with each pass.
No. The one-mile forest loop is designed for participants to move at their own pace. Some may run multiple laps while others may choose to walk slowly or simply sit and observe.

We have added a 27, 54, 81 and 108 mile option to the event. Runners/walkers will be able to do the 1-mile loop and receive a mala bead for every mile completed. The ultramarathon will start the night of June 5 and conclude at 5:30pm on June 6th. Participants doing the ultramarathon will be able to attend all of the event programing once their distance is completed. Aid stations will be set-up at the start and midway point of the 1-mile loop. Ultrarunners can set-up their own tent and aid stations. Sign-up for the Ultra at https://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=138432 .
